Job Opportunity: Testing and Commissioning Lead

Our client is seeking a skilled professional to oversee the testing and commissioning of all vehicle systems on railway rolling stock. This is an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge transportation solutions while ensuring operational and safety standards are met. Context

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicle systems meet operational requirements, providing your expertise in managing the testing and commissioning processes. You will play a key role in the successful handover of fully operational systems to our clients.

Main Duties

• Lead and oversee the testing and commissioning of railway rolling stock vehicles and systems to ensure full functionality, integration, and compliance with project standards;
• Develop and implement testing and commissioning plans, while managing resources and coordinating with teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery;
• Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, minimizing project delays;
• Ensure accurate documentation of all testing and commissioning activities;
• Serve as the main point of contact for vehicle testing and commissioning, providing regular updates and technical support to stakeholders.

Profile/Skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or certifications in project management, electrical systems, HVAC, or plumbing are a plus.

Years of Experience

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the testing and commissioning of vehicles or systems, including at least 3 years in transportation or large-scale infrastructure projects. A minimum of 3 years of workshop experience is preferred, ideally in a unionized environment.

Technical Skills

• Proven experience managing the commissioning of systems such as power distribution, backup power, lighting, controls, brakes, compressors, HVAC, ventilation, toilets, and related components.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Solid understanding of relevant national and international standards (e.g., CFR, APTA, AAR, NEC, IEC, and local codes).
• Proficient in using electrical and mechanical testing equipment, such as insulation testers, relay test sets, circuit analyzers, and pressure/flow meters.

Personal and Soft Skills

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with strong technical support skills;
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills for effective team management and stakeholder coordination.
