Job Details

Position: Special Education Teacher – Primary School

Location: North Vancouver, BC

Work Setting: On-site in an Alternative and Private School environment

Responsibilities

• Attend educational conferences and workshops
• Discuss results and students’ progress with students, parents, and school officials
• Evaluate and document students’ progress
• Participate in educational conferences and teacher training workshops
• Participate in staff meetings
• Provide tutoring assistance
• Supervise teaching assistants and train student teachers
• Assign and correct homework
• Develop course content
• Identify children’s individual learning needs
• Lead students in activities to promote their physical, mental, and social development and their school readiness
• Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
• Prepare subject material for presentation according to an approved curriculum
• Prepare, administer, and correct tests
• Teach students using lessons, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and field trips

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Experience: 5 years or more
• Certificates: Emergency child care first aid and CPR, Provincial or Territorial Teaching Certificate

• Conditions: Attention to detail, fast-paced environment, ability to stand for extended periods, comfortable with tight deadlines
• Personal Suitability: Accurate, dependable, organized, team player, strong interpersonal communication skills, and creativity

Compensation

Salary: $53,890.55 to $107,445.55 annually (to be negotiated), with a workload of 40 hours per week
