Salary Range

The complete salary range for this position is $95,700 – $159,500 annually, with a target range of $120,000 to $140,000. Salary decisions are typically based on factors such as internal equity, candidate experience, education, and, in some cases, the candidate’s work location.

Job Purpose

Our client is looking for an engineer with initiative and problem-solving skills to design, commission, and manage meteorological measurement systems for wind and solar energy projects. The ideal candidate possesses technical knowledge of measurement or instrumentation systems, strong project management abilities, and a passion for accurately and reliably measuring the meteorological data necessary to build a sustainable energy future.

Responsibilities

• Design, acquire, and commission measurement and instrumentation systems essential for collecting data required for designing, building, and operating wind and solar energy projects, including meteorological towers and solar energy measurement stations.
• Select and manage contractors responsible for installation and maintenance work on measurement stations in North America, ensuring adherence to health and safety guidelines.
• Manage a fleet of assets including measurement systems, auxiliary power systems, and communication equipment, performing remote troubleshooting when issues arise.
• Prepare technical specifications for the acquisition and construction of measurement systems on wind and solar energy projects, acting as a technical expert during design reviews.
• Oversee all activities related to contractual power curve testing in accordance with IEC 61400-12-1 standards.
• Maintain the meteorological measurement systems database to communicate the status of all measurement systems to asset optimization and resource assessment teams.
• Develop strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and consultants related to measurement systems and meteorological data.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and membership in a professional engineering body in Canada, or eligibility for membership.
• A bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with relevant experience will be considered for a Senior Analyst—Measurement Systems position.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience working on instrumentation and measurement systems projects, power curve testing, or renewable energy projects is required.

• Experience with programming and troubleshooting Campbell Scientific and/or NRG Systems data loggers is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience in applying IEC 61400-12-1 and/or IEC 61400-50-3 standards are advantageous.
• Experience managing contractors on meteorological tower construction or remote site projects is beneficial.

Skills/Abilities

• Highly motivated, independent, able to work with others, and possessing a strong team spirit.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills are required.
• Experience with various Microsoft software applications, including Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Fluency in both French and English is required for candidates in Canada.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel to various projects in North America for an average duration of 5 to 7 days and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Conditions

• 85% of the time is spent in the office using computers and various software; 15% is spent outside visiting project sites in Canada and the United States, as well as attending conferences and meetings.
