Position: SDS Designer

This hybrid role can be based out of our client’s offices in Vancouver. You will lead SDS-based design for substations and telecom projects, providing designs that meet critical operational needs for top clients in various industries including energy, transportation, and telecommunications.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead SDS-Based Design for Substations and Telecom: Oversee substation design using SDS, including Protection & Control (P&C) and Telecom systems within AutoCAD Electrical or other Autodesk environments.
• Multi-Discipline Support: Design intelligent drawings and models for Protection & Control and Telecommunication systems, including panel layouts and wiring diagrams.
• Template & Standards Development: Enhance SDS templates, symbol libraries, and workflows to support P&C and Telecom designs.
• Model and Documentation Management: Generate accurate models, construction drawings, cable schedules, and documentation for design packages.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineers and project managers to ensure integration of Telecom systems into designs.
• Mentorship & Training: Support junior designers in SDS workflows for P&C and Telecom systems.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure designs meet specifications and align with utility or internal standards.
• Process & Tool Improvement: Identify opportunities for workflow enhancements within SDS.
• Client Engagement: Provide technical insights during client discussions.

Qualifications

• Education: Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Technology, or Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
• Experience:
• 5–8 years of experience in substation and/or telecom design.
• At least 2 years of experience using SDS for P&C and/or telecom applications.
• Software Proficiency:
• Strong skills in AutoCAD, Substation Design Suite (SDS), AutoCAD Electrical, and Vault Pro.
• Experience with Telecom-specific drafting or design tools is a strong asset.
• Technical Knowledge:
• Understanding of substation Protection & Control components and Telecom elements.
• Knowledge of telecom routing and panel layout is desirable.
• Standards Awareness:
• Familiarity with utility and industry standards such as IEEE, CSA, NESC, and IEC relating to protection and telecom design.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
• Certifications:
• CET designation or eligibility is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $85,000, depending on the candidate’s experience and skills.
