Overview of the Role

The registered nurse (RN) role is integral to the medicine program, which consists of multiple specialized units. The nursing team utilizes a collaborative care model and advanced electronic medical record systems to enhance patient care. The program emphasizes evidence-based practices and quality improvement to enrich patient and family experiences.

Unit 5F3 is particularly fast-paced, featuring 21 inpatient beds dedicated to caring for older adults with diverse medical needs. This role involves supporting patients with chronic conditions and providing compassionate end-of-life care.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients and families while ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Utilize critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in nursing processes.

Compensation

Provisional Permit Holders will earn between $39.58 and $54.16 per hour. Upon registration as a Registered Nurse, the pay will be adjusted according to the established pay scale.

• Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends
• Days Off: As Per Rotation
• Minimum Salary: $43.26
• Maximum Salary: $59.21

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• If not practiced within the last five years, complete required courses.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Ability to work to full scope of practice in a busy environment.
• Physical capability to lift at least 50 lbs and assist in patient care activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven critical thinking skills and experience with team nursing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a Charge Nurse and completion of Indigenous Awareness education.
• Experience with dementia, delirium, and related behavioral challenges is an asset.
• Connect Care training is beneficial.
