Your Opportunity:Our client is more than just a hospital; it is a campus environment that includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness center. As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), you will provide holistic assessments within a recovery model framework for patients in psychiatric or psychosocial crisis presenting to the Emergency Department. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Emergency Department to assess the patient, determine the level of illness and risk to self or others, and make recommendations to Emergency Physicians and Psychiatrists regarding the plan of care for the patient. As a PES Nurse, you will collaborate with services and organize referrals to community services or admission to inpatient units based on client needs. You will assess and develop, in collaboration with the patient, an effective plan using the Addiction and Mental Health continuum to identify appropriate services for clients and arrange care. You will provide brief interventions to clients and will identify, initiate, and modify interventions based on changing needs of patients as appropriate to the RN/RPN legislated scope of practice. You will also act as a resource to Emergency Department staff regarding the assessment and care of patients with mental health conditions.
Description:As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. You will also teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of our client.
Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:RNs – Active or Eligible Registration with CARNA or RPNs – Active or Eligible Registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). 1 year of Addictions and Mental health experience within the last 3 years with an FTE. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Experience in child and adolescent mental health and acute care setting preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of various risk assessments (i.e., suicide, homicide, violence), verbal de-escalation techniques, and how to intervene are assets. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act preferred.
