Qualifications to Work as a PSW

• Valid Certificate as a Personal Support Worker (PSW)
• RN or RPN
• Nursing student (2 clinical placements completed)
• Home Support Level 2 or Level 3 from a recognized curriculum
• Valid Developmental Support Worker Certificate
• Foreign trained healthcare professional – Nurse

Requirements

• A valid driver’s license and vehicle for daily work use is required
• Meet Immunization requirements – MMR, Varicella, TB, Tetanus, and Covid
• Current vulnerable sector check (VSC)
• Current Standard CPR level C certificate and First Aid
• Availability to work days or evenings and every other weekend
• This is a physically demanding position requiring hand, arm and shoulder dexterity, sensory ability, lifting up to approximately fifty-five (55) pounds, walking, climbing stairs, standing, bending, reaching, and frequent movement

Eligibility for PSW Return of Service (ROS)

• New Graduates: Successfully complete an Ontario PSW training program meeting the 2022 standard and begin employment with a participating employer between specific dates, committing to 12 months of full-time work.
• Previous Graduates: Have previously trained as a PSW, not worked in direct patient care in the last 12 months, begin employment between specified dates, and commit to 12 months of full-time work.
