The Emergency Department is a large urban department that provides care to patients of varying acuity. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in this fast-paced environment, you will work as an essential member of the emergency department team.

Specific Accountabilities

The LPN will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong prioritization and assessment abilities, and the flexibility necessary to thrive in a busy work environment. You will be accountable to the public for your own practice, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and practice standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional healthcare team applying nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and relevant policies and procedures. Your role is crucial in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

• Hours per Shift: 11.08
• Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends
• Minimum Salary: $27.58
• Maximum Salary: $36.13

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)

Additional Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an approved Practical Nurse program
• 2-4 years’ experience as an LPN
• Current BLS – Heart and Stroke
• Minimum one (1) year nursing experience obtained within the past 2 years working greater than 0.70 FTE

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in emergency or urgent care setting
• Ability to work as a team member and accept direction
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
• Effective time management skills
• Understanding of Family Centred Care philosophy
• Up-to-date ACE Modules
