Job Opportunity: Construction Cost Consultant

Our client is offering an exciting position for a Construction Cost Consultant to join their project monitoring team in Toronto, Canada. This role is available for high-calibre candidates with a PQS background, along with international applicants who may require visa sponsorship.

Project Details

As a Quantity Surveyor/Construction Cost Consultant, you will be part of an office-based project monitoring team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide a variety of estimating, cost consulting, and project monitoring services efficiently and effectively. Some of the exciting projects you will be involved in include:

• House renovations
• Industrial units
• High-rise condominiums
• Laneway projects

The successful candidate will manage multiple projects at different stages of completion.

Responsibilities and Duties

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct periodic site inspections and complete cost and progress reports
• Perform project cost account reconciliation
• Report to the Associate Director regarding assigned projects
• Assist in preparing change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates
• Maintain ongoing client communication and effectively resolve issues
• Collaborate with various internal/external partners to gather necessary information for proposals/reports
• Liaise directly with clients
• Provide a full range of cost estimating services
• Prepare estimates during various stages of the design and construction process
• Produce benchmarking reports for construction and development costs
• Price estimates accurately

Desired Skills and Experience

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

• 1-2 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor/Cost Consultant/Estimator, preferably with a PQS background in cost consultancy, private practice, or client-side experience. Graduates willing to learn are also encouraged to apply.
• Proficient I.T skills, particularly with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience building rapport with clients
• Knowledge of the Canadian market is an asset
• Previous site inspection and cost reporting experience
• Experience with change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates
• History of handling multiple concurrent projects
• Expertise in project cost account reconciliation
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners
• Experience providing cost estimating services
• Proven track record in preparing estimates at various design and construction stages
• Previous experience in pricing estimates and benchmarking reports for construction costs

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• A BSc in Project Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related construction field is expected.
• Willingness to work towards Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) or CIQS/MRICS Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors accreditation
• A valid driving license is required
