Job Opportunity: Journeyperson Metal Fabricator

Our client is seeking a talented Journeyperson Metal Fabricator to join their Fleet and Manufacturing Services (FMS) team. This role supports critical services in Fleet Management and offers potential immigration support for qualified international candidates.

Main Purpose & Function

The Fleet and Manufacturing Services division ensures quality and timely work to support various clients. This includes a range of services such as:

• Engineering
• Vehicle Procurement
• Heavy Duty/Commercial/Automotive Maintenance and Repair
• Quick Service Repairs
• Machining and Mill Work
• Fabrication
• Vehicle Outfitting
• Carpentry
• Body Shop Vehicle Repair and Painting
• Product Inventory/Ordering
• Small Equipment Repair

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

The Journeyperson Metal Fabricator will be responsible for:

• Performing skilled shop and field work including welding, fitting, brazing, cutting, and laying out tasks.
• Repairing and maintaining City equipment, structures, and buildings.
• Advanced tasks in tempering, straightening, bending, shaping, and drawing out machinery parts and tools.
• Using independent judgment in solving complex fitting and fabrication issues.
• Supervising subordinate staff on simpler tasks.
• Following oral and written assignments, often accompanied by sketches or blueprints.

Work Schedule

The regular work schedule is from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM, Monday to Friday. Adjustments may be required based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Completion of grade 10 and supplementary technical courses, with considerable Journeyperson experience.
• Metal Fabrication Certificate of Qualification (T.Q.), Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement or Certification of Apprenticeship.
• Red Seal certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the steel fabrication trade.
• Ability to effectively use tools for finishing and fitting metal parts.
• Awareness of safety precautions associated with the trade.
• Proficiency in welding aluminum, cast iron, and steel.
• Ability to understand and execute detailed instructions with visual aids.
• Effective communication skills with public and internal clients.
• Physical agility and strength for heavy manual labor.

Driver’s License and Record Checks:

• A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher with a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record is required.
• Conditions regarding previous driving records must also be met.

Salary Information

Pay Grade GR-375: $47.19 per hour.
