Our client is a key player in the energy sector, providing a wide range of services including technical studies, project management, detailed design, and on-site services for clients across Canada. Due to growth challenges, they are currently seeking an Intermediate Network Studies Engineer to join their national electrical team.

Role Overview

As an Intermediate Network Studies Engineer, you will focus on advanced electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations and analyses that address critical challenges in electrical systems. This role is essential for providing advisory services related to resource integration, large-scale EMT simulations, oscillation analysis, transmission planning, and network modeling.

Responsibilities

• Conduct EMT studies addressing issues like sub-synchronous resonance, command interactions, ferroresonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), insulation coordination, harmonics, transient recovery voltage (TRV), energization, and lightning.
• Develop EMT models for local systems, perform model tuning during disturbances, and conduct comparative analyses of PSCAD/PSSE models.
• Conduct steady-state studies including load flow and short circuit.
• Master software tools used for electrical network modeling such as PSCAD, EMTP, PSS/E, ETAP, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Understand relevant industrial standards such as IEEE/IEC/CICRE.
• Provide consultancy support to developers of production, large loads, and merchant transmission, being responsible for timely project completion while adhering to quality and budget goals.
• Lead, teach, and mentor junior electrical engineering consultants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electrical systems.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical network modeling and studies.
• Registered Professional Engineer or eligibility to obtain.
• Experience with control systems (an asset).
• Experience with HVDC systems (an asset).
• Proficiency with industry tools such as PSCAD, EMTP, PSS/E, ETAP, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Bilingualism required, as the role will involve projects with English-speaking clients and partners outside of Quebec.
• ASP Construction card (occasional travel might be required).
