Your resume should show us:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, focusing on municipal clients, fish habitat assessments, impact assessments, and construction mitigation.
• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Biology, Fisheries, Environmental or Aquatic Science, or equivalent.
• Registration with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists as a P.Biol. or R.Biol.
• A practical understanding of provincial and federal legislation, including the Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, CNWA, Public Lands Act, and Water Act, including Codes of Practice.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

Bonus Points For:

• Electrofishing operator certification.
• Direct experience with DRAS, EDS, and OPAC government websites.
• Familiarity with mapping and data collection tools such as ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Survey 123, or Avenza Pro.

A Little More About the Role

Responsibilities:
Working out of our Edmonton or Calgary office as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the applicant will utilize their knowledge and experience to deliver a variety of services for our public and private sector clients. Our ideal candidate is open to learning, adaptable, and embodies kindness, respect, and collaboration.

• Conduct fish and fish habitat assessments for municipal and transportation infrastructure projects (e.g., culverts, bridges, outfalls, and water intakes), primarily within Alberta.
• Lead or support environmental field assessments independently or under senior biologist guidance, ensuring high-quality field documentation and data analysis.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and project scope.
• Apply regulatory frameworks such as the Water Act, Fisheries Act, and other relevant legislation.
• Prepare Environmental and Biophysical Impact Assessments, including QAES recommendations and Request for Review submissions.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate mitigation strategies that reduce environmental risks.
• Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, regulators, and stakeholders.
• Support regulatory correspondence and assist in developing mitigation strategies and permit applications.
• Participate in proposal writing and business development initiatives.
• Train and mentor junior staff, fostering growth and field readiness.
• Travel across Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan for field programs, often in remote environments.
• Maintain and calibrate field equipment, manage inventory, and schedule service appointments.
• Maintain professional registration as a Registered Biologist (R.Biol.) or Professional Biologist (P.Biol.) with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
