Your Opportunity

You will have the opportunity to create, implement, and assess staff education and development activities that support patient care throughout the surgical journey. As the instructor for the pre-operative assessment clinic, PACU, and Day surgery, you will support best practices that result in quality outcomes for surgical patients. You will work closely with managers to identify learning opportunities and create and refine resources to address learning needs. Additionally, you will educate newly hired RNs and LPNs while supporting the professional development and lifelong learning of experienced staff members. This role requires an understanding of the principles of adult education. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will assist you in effectively presenting educational materials to large groups. You will serve as a clinical and professional role model with advocacy for patients, families, and staff.

Description

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator supporting both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education for nursing staff, including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational, and evidence-informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of our client.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
• Strong clinical competencies in Post Anesthetic recovery.
• Minimum five years of current clinical experience in acute care specializing in PACU and/or post-operative patient care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a positive reinforcement style.
• Proven problem-solving and prioritization skills.
• Self-directed and takes the initiative to improve patient care.
• Leadership skills evidenced by completion of leadership courses.
• Experience in the development of practice documents (SOP) and knowledge of Practice Standards.
• Knowledge of our client’s policies and procedures and ability to identify applicability to unit staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in PACU.
• 2 years’ experience as a clinical nurse educator.
• 3 years’ pre/post-operative surgical experience.
• Project work experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of NAPAN standards.
