Responsibilities

Tasks

• Clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas
• Conduct artificial insemination and spraying or shearing of livestock or disinfecting pens, barns, or poultry houses
• Develop specific plans to prioritize work tasks
• Diagnose livestock health issues
• Direct farm feed inventory activities
• Direct farm grooming activities
• Handle animals
• Mark livestock as proof of ownership
• Monitor animal health
• Organize tasks to accomplish work
• Perform pig littering activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medications, identification of piglets, and castration
• Supervise milking operations to ensure work is done correctly
• Treat livestock health issues
• Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures
• Maintain financial and production records
• Negotiate with clients for services
• Coordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting laborers
• Select livestock for sale
• Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs
• Maintain work records and logs
• Hire and train staff
• Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
• Perform general farm duties
