Job Summary

Our client is a significant civic institution in Toronto, focused on the powerful storytelling attributes of ceramics. Position Overview

The Development Manager is a pivotal member of a three-person Development team, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). This position is integral to leading fundraising and engagement strategies across various revenue streams, including individual giving, foundation and government grants, corporate sponsorships, and membership. The Development Manager will supervise the Development Coordinator and facilitate donor stewardship, major events, and volunteer management.

Conditions of Employment

This is a full-time position with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week. Occasional evening work related to Museum events is anticipated, compensated by a time-in-lieu system.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development Strategy:

  • Support the CDO in establishing and tracking annual fundraising targets across all areas of contributed income.
  • Assist in prospect research, proposal development, and donor stewardship strategies.
  • Prepare briefing materials, proposals, and reports for donor meetings and funding partners.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of fundraising activities in CRM and grant tracking systems.
  • Contribute to department reporting and strategic planning initiatives.

    • Membership Program:

  • Support the development and execution of strategies to grow, retain, and engage the Museum’s membership base.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator in managing membership renewals, inquiries, and communications.
  • Plan and execute member events in collaboration with colleagues and peer institutions.
  • Oversee membership campaigns and ensure alignment with broader communication goals.
  • Stay informed about trends and innovations in cultural membership programs.

    • Fundraising Events:

  • Co-lead the planning and execution of the Museum’s annual fundraising event with the CDO.
  • Support the cultivation and stewardship of sponsors, including cash and in-kind contributors.
  • Propose and coordinate creative partnerships and guest experiences within events.
  • Manage event timelines, budgets, logistics, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Oversee marketing materials, guest communications, and volunteer involvement related to events.

    • Volunteer Management:

  • Coordinate annual volunteer recruitment with relevant departments.
  • Maintain engagement and appreciation strategies for active volunteers.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator in volunteer scheduling and data management using Better Impact.
