Your Work Environment

In this role, you will be part of the Mining team, based in either Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Hamilton, or Brampton offices.

What a Day at Our Client Holds for You

• Complete engineering calculations and models for assessments, including seepage and stability, pipe and drainage ditch design, hydrology and hydraulics plans, erosion, settling of solids, alternative cover demonstrations, geochemistry, and statistics.
• Assist the Director of Engineering, Civil Engineer, and EITs with the delivery of project requirements related to scope, cost, and schedule.
• Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines.
• Plan and execute field exploration programs focused on gathering data for site investigations and design activities, including soil boring and test pit logging.
• Provide input for engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates.
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers and technicians.
• Perform project management tasks for capital and maintenance projects.
• Document construction observation and quality assurance testing for Geosynthetics or Earthworks on large civil or power projects.
• Prepare interpretive reports to support engineering design and construction documentation.
• Develop grading plans and designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Assist with writing reports, cost estimating, specifications, and permit documents under senior technical guidance.

Your Experience Looks Like

• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering design within mining or industrial projects from conceptual to detailed design.
• Solid experience in site development, pipe and open channel hydraulics, and mine access road design.
• Tailings/slurry piping design experience is a plus.
• Sound knowledge of various piping materials, fittings, and joining methods.
• Experience in stormwater management and runoff calculations.
• Good understanding of coordinate systems and survey controls.
• Experience interpreting and applying geotechnical design recommendations.
• Skilled in writing technical reports and preparing material take-offs for cost estimates.
• Experience in procurement and technical evaluations of construction contracts.
• Excellent organizational, technical, communication, and computer skills.
• Knowledge of general civil designs, industry codes, mining laws, regulations, and construction methods.
