Job Title: Accountant (Plant/Manufacturing)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work Model: Hybrid – 2-3 Days Onsite

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Plant Accountant to join our client’s finance team. This role is critical in managing plant-level financial activities, ensuring accurate accounting, and supporting operational decision-making. We are looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation and hands-on standard costing experience to help drive inventory management for the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily cash reconciliations and prepare weekly cash forecasts to support cash flow management.
• Process customer invoicing and credit notes, apply customer payments, and manage accounts receivable collections.
• Calculate bad debt provisions and generate customer account statements.
• Maintain and update standard costs, including material, labor, and overhead rates, ensuring accuracy and consistency across the plant.
• Conduct cost variance analysis (purchase price, usage, labor, and overhead variances), investigate discrepancies, and provide recommendations to management.
• Assist in the annual standard cost roll and support periodic updates for new products or changes in production processes.
• Partner with operations to analyze plant costs, margins, and profitability, providing financial insight to support decision-making.
• Prepare and execute AP cheque runs and process online bill payments.
• Manage intercompany payments and perform account reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit regulatory and financial reports in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including inventory valuation and reconciliation, standard-to-actual cost adjustments, and financial reporting.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a post-secondary education in Accounting and be actively working towards a CPA designation. You will bring a minimum of five years of relevant accounting experience, including at least two years in cost accounting or plant accounting within a manufacturing, distribution or warehouse environment. The candidate should be proficient in various accounting functions, including cash management, inventory control, intercompany reconciliations, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR). A strong working knowledge of ERP systems is essential, with preference given to those experienced in Macola and/or Visual Manufacturing. Understanding of U.S. GAAP would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of thriving in a hybrid work environment, demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, they must be security clearance eligible and possess a valid work permit. Must be willing to do some minimal travel to sites.
