Canada Parent Sponsorship Program 2025 Intake Now Open

Bringing parents or grandparents to Canada is a heartfelt dream for many who have recently become permanent residents. If you’ve recently gained your PR (Permanent Residency) status, you can sponsor your loved ones under the Parents and Grandparents Program, which allows them to apply for their own PR.

However, it’s important to note that this program operates by invitation. The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) opens opportunities for those who have submitted their interest to sponsor forms, which were accepted two years ago. Starting on July 28, 2025, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) will invite potential sponsors who submitted forms in 2020 to apply for the 2025 intake.

In this round, Canada plans to issue 17,860 invitations over a two-week period, leading to a final acceptance of up to 10,000 complete applications. So, if you’ve submitted an interest form and haven’t received an invite yet, it’s a good idea to check your email, including your junk and spam folders!

The deadline to apply under this program is October 9, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. If you are among those invited, you will need to submit your applications online via the Permanent Residence Portal. Remember that there are two applications involved:

  • Sponsorship Application: You need to officially apply to become a sponsor.
  • Permanent Residence Application: Your parents and grandparents must apply for their PR status.

Both applications can be submitted together by the principal applicant (the person being sponsored) using the Permanent Residence (PR) Portal. If multiple family members are applying, each one must create their own account.

Processing times for applications vary, especially for those applying from outside Quebec, which generally takes about 24 months. However, if the application is destined for Quebec, it can take up to 48 months due to the province’s unique admission targets.

In terms of costs, application fees start from $1,205, but keep in mind there may be additional charges such as processing fees, Right of Permanent Residence fee, and biometrics fees.

Eligibility to Sponsor

As a sponsor, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and you’ll need to demonstrate that you have enough income to support your family, including any dependents. This means you must meet specific income requirements based on the tax returns of the last three years leading up to your application. For instance, the required income for two people is $47,549, while three people would require $58,456 and up to $70,972 for four.

As a sponsor, you’ll also be required to sign an undertaking, committing to financially support your parents or grandparents for a specified period—typically 20 years for parents and grandparents, and 10 years for residents in Quebec.

What If You Aren’t Invited?

If you’re not selected for the PGP, your parents and grandparents may consider applying for a Super Visa. This option allows them to visit Canada for up to five years at a time and they can even apply for extensions of two years while in Canada. It’s a great alternative for those looking for some time together.

As you navigate this process, remember that you’re not alone. Here at VisaJobsCanada.com, we focus specifically on Canadian job opportunities that offer visa sponsorship to international applicants. So, if you’re also exploring job opportunities while considering bringing your loved ones over, you’re in good company.

Moving to Canada and reuniting with family makes for a fulfilling adventure. Best of luck with your sponsorship journey!
