Salary Grade: 6

Hiring Salary Range: $100,277 – $112,812 per annum

Maximum Salary Range: $125,346 per annum

Job Type: Management and Administration

Area of Responsibility:

Reporting to the Manager, Transit Maintenance, this role supervises vehicle maintenance staff to ensure transit vehicles are in optimum condition, meeting customer service expectations and health & safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Vehicle Maintenance team, providing oversight and performance management to non-unionized and unionized staff.
  • Review and implement preventative and proactive maintenance programs to meet MTO guidelines.
  • Monitor performance to meet business needs and emerging priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Provide performance feedback and support development of staff skills.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities to efficiently manage vehicle inspections, repairs, and maintenance operations.
  • Prepare monthly reports on vehicle cost per km tracking.
  • Participate in maintenance review addressing operational efficiency and employee performance gaps.
  • Ensure proper inventory management of maintenance supplies.
  • Troubleshoot deficiencies, updating policies and procedures as needed.
  • Enforce Transit and Provincial Safety Policies and manage absenteeism using the Corporate Attendance Management Program.
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation of new Transit employees and participate in training development.
  • Manage financial record keeping and recommend budgetary needs based on research and analysis.

    • Selection Criteria:

    Education:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration or related discipline.

    • Required Experience:

  • 5 years of Transit/Fleet experience with 2 years of Supervisory experience; preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance.

    • Other Skills and Assets:

  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards and applicable legislation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with maintenance software such as ‘Fleet Focus’ is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse community.

    • Mandatory Requirements:

  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence (“G” class).
  • Ability to upgrade driver’s licence to “CZ” class.
  • Valid Certificates of Qualification – Trade licences (310T – Truck and Coach).
