Your Opportunity:Our client’s Addictions and Mental Health Program is a group of dynamic multidisciplinary teams that work together to ensure patients have the best standard of care and experience. Our site runs six Addictions and Mental Health Programs including Two Psychiatry Inpatient Units, Day Hospital, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), Consultation Liaison, and the Short Stay Unit (SSU). As a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on Unit 25, you will play a pivotal role as an integral member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team. Focused on in-patient acute psychiatric nursing, you will engage in collaborative efforts to provide holistic and comprehensive care, addressing the diverse needs of individuals, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities:In this position, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop a robust plan of care to stabilize patients suffering from acute psychiatric illness. Your responsibilities include:

• Delivering targeted interventions with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs.
• Conducting physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution.
• Engaging in discharge planning that promotes, maintains, and restores mental health, while preventing mental illness, injury, and disability.
• Facilitating and delivering applicable group content to the patients.
• Effectively engaging with other departments, services, and clients to ensure seamless provision of high-quality care.

Description:As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and relevant policies and procedures. This role involves providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of our client.

• Employee Class: Regular Full Time
• Hours per Shift: 7.75
• Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends
• Minimum Salary: $27.58
• Maximum Salary: $36.13

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques.
• Working knowledge of psychotropic medications.
• Experience with AMH assessment tools, including the Mental Status examination.
• Experience in various risk assessments (e.g., suicide risk, homicidal risk, violent risk).
• Minimum of 1 year of Addictions and Mental Health experience within the last 3 years with an FTE.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities.
• Accountability for own professional practice.
• Ability to promote a positive work environment that facilitates the development of high-performing teams.
• New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health inpatient program may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred.
• Recent nursing experience in an acute in-patient psychiatric setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act preferred.
• Knowledge of Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care is preferred.
