Your Opportunity:

Do you enjoy working in a dynamic department? Do you enjoy caring for and supporting families? Our client is hiring for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The NICU is a Level II unit providing care for infants born prematurely and/or with health issues. We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Physicians, Social Workers, Dieticians, and other allied health partners. NICU staff will also provide support to the LDR and Mat/Child as necessary. This position will transition to a 1.0 Full-time role in September 2025.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being. Your responsibilities will include:

• Utilizing nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making.
• Teaching, counseling, and advocating for patients and their families.
• Playing a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
• Providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting our shared vision and values.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour – $54.16/hour. Upon registration as a Registered Nurse, the pay rate will be adjusted in accordance with applicable agreements.

• Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of required courses is necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Knowledge in assessing and providing care for newborns.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with care teams and patients/clients.
• Assessment skills to recognize and respond to changes in patient/client status.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and reliability.
• Ability to work well in small groups, especially within interdisciplinary teams.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2-3 years of acute care or relevant clinical experience preferred.
• Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent to NICU nursing preferred.
• Experience/knowledge of lactation and assisting mothers in feeding their babies preferred.
• Experience/knowledge of perinatal bereavement and supporting families coping with newborn loss preferred.
