Your Opportunity:Based on location availability, the successful applicant may have the option to work from either our client’s Ponoka or Red Deer office. In your role as Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Virtual Opioid Dependency Program (VODP), you will report directly to the Manager, VODP and provide a broad range of services primarily focused on supporting clients. Working as part of an inter-disciplinary healthcare team, you will practice from a harm reduction and recovery-based philosophy. You will act as an extension of the physician, providing direct patient care through virtual technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support clients with the initiation and ongoing treatment of Suboxone or Methadone and understand the relevant protocols.
• Perform rapid nursing assessments and screenings to ensure safety, while mitigating risks associated with medication management.
• Prepare prescription renewals and maintain precise electronic records on individual clients’ files.
• Involve in case management activities for clients such as follow-ups, treatment, counseling, and referrals.
• Assist physicians with virtual health examinations, schedule appointments, and process related orders.
• Coordinate and provide procedures for urine drug screening, including follow-up with physicians and clients.
• Assist patients with community resource linkages, such as Addiction Counsellors and Mental Health follow-up.
• Engage in ongoing consultation with community pharmacies and monitoring of client medication dosing.
• Educate clients on non-prescribed drug interactions while on buprenorphine or Methadone.
• Monitor client risk and complete suicide risk screening and assessment as deemed necessary.
• Contribute to VODP Team meetings, team decisions, and policy and procedure manual.

You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and policies and procedures. Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Excellent knowledge of addictions and mental illness.
• Competency in identifying clients at risk and completing a suicide risk assessment.
• Knowledge of Suboxone/buprenorphine and Methadone.
• Advanced computer literacy with above average keyboarding skills, proficient in Outlook, MS Office, Connect Care, ASIST, etc.
