Your Opportunity:Our client provides expert patient care for women of all ages and in all stages of life located at one of Alberta’s largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, this facility serves a diverse community, including some of the province’s most vulnerable populations. This is a training position for Labour & Delivery with the expectation to provide cross coverage in antepartum as required.
Training Details:The Maternal Newborn Nursing Orientation consists of 9 days of virtual training, self-study, and lab combined with 19 buddy shifts and 13 mentor shifts in L&D to account for a total of 4 months of training. Once the training is complete, you will have gained basic knowledge in working with obstetrical patients, performing a wide variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. You will be considered fully trained in L&D once you have completed a year in the job to allow for knowledge consolidation.
Key Responsibilities:As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
Salary Information:Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour – $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the applicable rate for a Registered Nurse.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
A thorough understanding of the antepartum period, the labor and delivery process, and the immediate postpartum period, as well as basic knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding. Successful completion of a medication exam is required at the time of the interview.
Physical Demands:
Meet Physical Demands Requirements due to the unit’s emergent nature, including significant walking and standing, seated work requiring substantial arm and/or leg force, and the regular handling of weights occasionally up to 100 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completed a clinical preceptorship in Obstetrics at a level two or three facility within the last two years.
