Your Opportunity:

The ICU is a 29-bed unit characterized by high acuity and high occupancy. The ICU cares for critically ill patients from various programs including medicine, surgery (including thoracic surgery), obstetrics, gynecologic, neurosurgical, and trauma. The unit provides evidence-based services within an inter-disciplinary team model. Specialized services include acute ventilatory support, continuous and intermittent renal replacement for acute and chronic renal failure, rhabdomyolysis, sepsis, therapeutic plasma exchange for hematological and autoimmune disorders, and critical care support for the regional bariatric program. Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams for the facility include nurses from the Intensive Care Unit. The ICU is focused on continued Quality Improvement, providing a supportive environment for staff and students, and ensuring patients receive the best care possible. The Registered Nurse in this area is specially trained to be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. Nursing care will be administered safely and effectively, in accordance with hospital policies and nursing care standards.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate for patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality, patient-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Please Note: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour – $54.16/hour. Upon registration as a Registered Nurse, the pay rate will be adjusted according to applicable regulations.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• If you haven’t practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five years, completion of specified courses is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with 1 year of adult critical care RN experience is required.
• Candidates without previous Adult ICU experience may apply and may be considered for the Orientation Program (OPACCA), which includes theory and clinical orientation over approximately 10-12 months (approx. 1600 hours).
• Demonstration of excellent skills in knowledge assessment, documentation, communication, organizational abilities, and patient care is necessary for success.
• Charge Nurse duties may be required following successful orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in ICU, observation room, trauma, with ventilators and as an acute care RN is preferred.
• Training and experience with: Epidurals, ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, hemodialysis, rhythm analysis, Pacemakers, Cardiac Arrest Management, and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Experience working with diverse communities or groups (i.e., ethno-cultural, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable groups, persons with disabilities, etc.).
