Health Center Overview

The Wainwright Health Centre houses a 20-bed acute care medical/surgical unit, a 2-bed obstetrical suite, and a 24/7 Emergency Department. Additional facilities include an operating room, day surgery unit, and cardiac wellness services. It’s mandatory for all med/surg nurses to undertake L&D/postpartum education if they haven’t already done so.

Job Description

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow, and acting as a role model, clinical resource, and advocate for nursing staff. While providing frontline nursing care as needed, you will take a leadership role in promoting quality patient care and implementing operational priorities. Your advanced knowledge, skills, judgment, and clinical experience will aid in resolving complex healthcare issues at all levels, including interactions with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators, and policymakers. You will be instrumental in delivering safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, reflecting the shared vision and values of our organization.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)

Additional Required Qualifications

• Recent experience in an acute care/obstetrics/emergency area/department within the last year required
• Acute care/OB/ER clinical leadership experience required (within one year)
• Charge nurse experience required, within one year
• Demonstrates understanding of patient flow and capacity management at a site/unit level
• Excellent communication skills and successful conflict management strategies
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently
• Keen attention to detail
• Experience with Connect Care preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge Nurse Experience is preferred (within the last year)
• Recent experience, within the last year, in emergency and/or obstetrics
• ACLS, NRP, FHS, internal labour & delivery and postpartum education program
