Job Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor for their operations in the Island Gold District. This position will involve both office and fieldwork, focusing on environmental leadership and compliance initiatives while fostering a culture of safety and accountability.

Role Overview/Purpose

The Senior Environmental Advisor (SEA) will report to the Environmental Manager or designate. The SEA will lead environmental staff, coordinate initiatives, and support monitoring efforts. Responsibilities also include implementing compliance and reclamation programs within the environmental management system.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of environmental monitoring programs, covering air and water quality, noise levels, waste management, and biodiversity.
• Support mine reclamation efforts ensuring alignment with environmental and operational goals.
• Maintain and enhance the Environmental Management System to ensure compliance with Corporate and Regional standards.
• Oversee environmental data collection initiatives and manage data handling systems.
• Conduct fieldwork, including site inspections and environmental sampling.
• Advise teams and contractors on environmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant environmental legislation and requirements.
• Respond promptly to environmental incidents to minimize impacts and ensure compliance.
• Coordinate with external consultants for data collection and assessments.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports and compliance documentation within required timelines.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, local communities, and stakeholders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience

• 5-8 years of experience in environmental roles, preferably in mining or natural resources, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Environmental or Natural Sciences or related disciplines preferred.
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
• Accountability with a focus on executing operational and closure strategies.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Proficient in MS Suite and environmental data processing tools.
• Excellent analytical abilities for complex data interpretation.
• Effective communicator and collaborator with diverse teams.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate relevant vehicles as required.
