Your Opportunity

A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family-centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with our client’s policies and procedures. The unit provides care to primary hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are primarily received from the operating room but may also come from the emergency department and medical clinics.

Collaborative care nursing is implemented on all shifts, with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and health care aides working together. LPNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aides and support their RN peers. This role is physically demanding; the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients, as well as performing other physical tasks.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and our client’s policies and procedures. You will play a key role in delivering safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting our client’s shared vision and values.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

• CLPNA registration required and expected to be maintained through your employment.
• BCLS – HCP level required and expected to be maintained through your employment.
• Graduation from an approved nursing education program.
• Previous Arthroplasty experience required.
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and priority-setting skills required.
• Demonstrated reliability required.
• Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Basic computer skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Connect Care preferred.
• Experience with ESP preferred.
• Experience with Nurse Call Responder 5 preferred.
• Experience with VernaCare System preferred.
• Direct IV, PICC, care of spinal anesthesia patients’ experiences preferred.
