Registered Nurses in the Medicine Program work with a diverse patient population and develop a well-rounded knowledge base of internal medicine. A mix of experienced and newer graduates provides an exciting and rewarding opportunity in an ideal environment to develop expertise. The incumbent participates in the provision of healthcare to patients by utilizing critical thinking skills and working up to their full scope of practice (i.e., the administration of intermittent intravenous medications, monitoring of continuous IV medication infusions, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to performing various treatments and procedures, assessing patients, planning their care based on assessments, observing, monitoring, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided, reporting and documenting changes in the patient’s physical, mental, or emotional state, assisting patients with activities of daily living, providing both patient and family with relevant information and education, and performing other related duties as required and/or delegated using the collaborative care nursing model. The Unit Manager supervises this position.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality, patient, and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of our client.

Compensation

Please note: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour – $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the applicable rate in accordance with employment agreements.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Required Qualifications

• Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally, and emotionally) on this busy, fast-paced Gastrointestinal/Hepatology Unit.
• Must be able to work within posted position rotation and shifts.
• Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 50 lbs.
• 1 year of acute care medicine experience required.
• Basic computing skills required.
• Must possess excellent communication, critical thinking, and time management skills.
• Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of infection prevention and control guidelines and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Connect Care training, preferred.
• Charge Nurse experience, preferred.
• Recent GI and hepatology experience, preferred.
• Greater than 2 years in acute care medicine, preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, preferred.
