Our client will be offering a paid Critical Care Nursing Program through the Michener Institute, based on the qualifications detailed below.

Winter Cohort Dates:

• January 13, 2025 (Hospital orientation to start on January 7, 2025)
• February 24, 2025 (Hospital orientation to start on February 18, 2025)

Spring Cohort Dates:

• April 7, 2025 (Hospital orientation to start on April 1, 2025)
• May 19, 2025 (Hospital orientation to start on April 22, 2025)

About the Critical Care Nursing Program

• 11-week course
• Paid full-time hours
• Combination of instructor-led virtual and clinical education
• Formal 3-month mentorship offered after course completion
• Additional in-house opportunities for further certifications after course completion

Primary Responsibilities

• Provides patient and family-focused care within the RN scope of practice, based on the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Functions in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes
• Ensures practice is consistent with entry-to-practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines, and legislation
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team
• Practices collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide care for patients/clients with complex health issues
• Contributes to the assessment and documentation of each patient’s health status on an ongoing basis
• Assists in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluates its ongoing effectiveness
• Assists in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students to the clinical units
• Acts as a role model and champion to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care
• Takes a leadership role in the coordination of patient care in the assigned area
• Assumes a charge nurse role when assigned
• Other duties as assigned by Manager/delegate

Qualifications

• Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ recent critical care nursing experience or Critical Care Certificate preferred
• ACLS preferred
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated problem assessment skills
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
• Demonstrated individual leadership skills

Critical Care Sponsorship Qualifications

• Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum one (1) to three (3) years’ of recent medical and/or surgical nursing experience preferred
• BCLS current certification
• Current ACLS preferred
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Innovative and willing to learn
